| Since time began there have been those to whom Power is given, by money, prestige or by birth. There have also been those who survive by their own means, by deed and courage and skill. These people live by their wits and savvy in the dark alleys and steep mountain passes. Over time these people were drawn together, and a network of eyes and ears in the city streets has developed in the cities throughout the realm. Nothing goes unnoticed no movement is unobserved. This silent army of this mysterious group comes from within the cities themselves, the simple, seldom seen people, who have survived the petty tyrants, egomaniacal rulers, and psychotic warlords. The Guild offers them not only payment for their information but represents protection from the evil forces of chaos as well as those deluded into believing their justice and their truth is Law. Aided by this network the Guild controls all routes between and within the cities. Merchants understand that in order to guarantee their safe passage and that of their goods a toll is required. Balance and Peace are necessary for business. Crusading Bands in the name of Good and Bloodthirsty Hordes seeking their cruel pleasure are just the different costumes of tyranny. The actual membership of the Guild ranges from noble birth to those of the lowest social class, rank is achieved by deed, but not by treachery. This Mysterious group is controlled within each municipality by a select group who coordinate the Guilds activities. The actual power of the group hold a great amount of prestige, especially among ordinary folk, and are usually easily distinguished. The actions of the group, however, often times occur in secret and those with whom they quarrel do not remain to tell the tales. Though the Guild is primarily engaged in deeds which require stealth and secrecy, it is not made up only of thieves. The demands of running such and operation on such a large scale, and frequently protecting its interests against groups such as the Horde, all manner of thieves, warriors, and mages are required.
