A
colder night than usual...

It has been a few days already and yet there has been no word from Kormation.
This is most disturbing.. He has always been eager to give me some kind
of report on his progress or chat about his day. Zauber was the last to
see him, two days ago from this afternoon. Zauber questioned him briefly
and reported to me that he was going off to see about the missing valley
elves. Since that was a matter we are semi-concerned with, I gave it little
thought. Ecks growls in fustration, "How foolish of me.." Its
apparent now that he held other plans, but what could he have possibly
done? Where could he have gone?
A brief sensation of pain floods through him as he flinches and buckles to his knees. Just as his knees touch the ground the pain is swiftly gone. Ecks catches his breath a moment, a genuine look of sorrow dawning his face. "He's no longer linked with the cape I gave him.. Kormation, what have you done?" Slowly he gets to his feet and makes his way to the large window within his chamber at the High Tower. His mind focused, he consentrates all his effort on tracking the magical link to the cape. Its.. Far away. Much farther than he would have though, but with his thoughts centered he is able locate its exact position. Ecks turns to his desk and grabs a sheet of blank paper from a drawer. With a pen and ink bottle he quickly scribbles a note to the rest of the clan, that he will be back soon. After infusing the paper with some specific magical task, it floats away, out the door and down the stairs to its destination of the Central Hall. With a foot on his open window sill he leaps out upon the coming darkness of night. A quick thought of the spell brings it to pass, and his descent halts as he flys off with incredible urgency towards the cape's location. The crimson sky fades to near darkness as the moon shines out, a soul becon of guiding light. The hours pass as he arrives at a large canyon, the link between him and the cape are the strongest, so he knows he must be close. Hovering down to the edge of a cliff his feet finally touch solid ground and he releases the spell of flight with a long breath. A bit exhasted now, from using so much concentration, he gladly takes a rest while still keeping his eyes alert. After resting he has continued his search on foot, scanning the darkness for some sign of the cape, of Kormation. A twinkle of light catches his attention from the other side of the canyon. Looking agian, in the moonlight the golden glow is now apparent. Recalling the spell again it is cast and regaining flight, he heads towards the cape. Looking down he can believe the way no light seems to penetrate the darkness deep within the ravine. The stench of death overwhelms his nostrils, this is not a place for any man to be. The darkness seems to whisper for him to come, almost seductively, but he knows better than to agree to this kind of persuasion and continues on. Stopping short of the cape he falls to his knees upon the rocky ground. Not just the cape lay here, but everything he remembered Kormation wearing lay unused as well. "Damn you Kormation, Damn you.. What was your reason?" A single tear rolls down his cheek in sorrow-filled sadness, only to be wiped away by us sudden gust of chilled wind. Closing his cloak tighter about him he picks up the golden cape, bundles it under an arm and tosses the rest of Kormation's items down into the darkness, except his sword. With all his might he thrusts the sword into section of rock upon the ground, with the aid of magic. With the blade nearly all buried, he engraves words along the hilt and exposed blade. 'This blade and the magic behind it holds true for one man, Kormation the Pure Hearted. Beloved member of the High Tower of Magi. May your mind stay as sharp as the blade you once weilded. ' Ecks turns away, and makes his way back to the High Tower to inform the rest. Turning back once more he stops and smiles, "Farewell my friend, I hope the afterlife treats you well.." He pauses a moment before adding, "I know I will never forget you.." Once agian he turns and is on his way. |
