Many moons and turning of the seasons have I served as your captain, guiding
through the early turmoils of this young realm to the relative peace that
pervades now. The File's mission has always been to protect Richard's
people from those that would try to don them with the shackles of slavery,
whether it be the body or the mind. We have succeeded in our task, though
not perfectly. Life is such that there is no eternal perfection, just
perfect moments. We've had our moments. From the threat of the Cursed
Ashes to the feeble uprising of the Hanged Cross, and our constant vigil
of the Imperial Order, we have held true and not broken. I say all this
to get to a point of some pain I must impart, for it will be a sad blow
to you my comrades in arms. I have come to a crossroads in my twilight
years, and it has occured to me I must choose another path to walk. It
is with regret I inform you all of my retirement from the File. Other
matters that are far too important to me have arisen, and I must see to
them. Shaire will have some understanding of it all, though she will not
agree with me. I must protect something as dearer to me than Richard's
people. You will not understand. I do not expect you to understand. You
are young, even by your own races's standards. I grow old, though you
know it not, and I wish to see if I can have that love I always wished
for. I had found it, or the beginnings of it, and now I aim to protect
that which is dear to me. Have no fear my comrades. Should she prove unreemable,
I will take the necessary steps. But know this, I am disappointed in the
zealous fervor I sense and feel from you all. You know it is not with
frenzied hate and bloodlust that we fight the Order. It is with vigilance
and a stout heart we must fight them. Fight them when you must, not when
you can. The consequences of battle are always harsh, and I do not wish
for there to senseless fighting. Xandera will lead you now, though to
wear I know not. Zug is still the battlemaster. Slow witted he may be,
but fighting and "smashing" he knows. Listen to his battle wisdom.
I know not what Shaire will do. Do not follow me or try to stop me. I
am resolute. It is what I must do. I give you this warning. Should you
aproach my love with zealous intent, I will cut you down where you stand.
I feel it's only fair to warn you. I will take care of her should she
prove untrue. You cannot hold too much blame with those that are controlled
by such a force as a Dreamwalker. Study Xandera. Learn all you can about
this creature. Jagang will surely know all he can about you, and will
impart that knowledge to his mind slaves. I leave you with that. Farewell
good members of the File. It was an honor and a privaledge to lead such
fine warriors and people. May your blades ring true, but let wisdom ring
truer.
