Ralraek's bg, part II (also long)
It was this moment, when facing a scarred ogre twice his height, that the true n ature of Ralraek revealed itself to Ralraek and the tribe. When pinned down to the ground , and only moments away from a lethal headbutt, Ralraek let his powers free. From the face of the warrior ontop of him, red and yellow flames emerged. Screaming in pain, the huge ogre stood up and started to run in circles, in futile efforts to end his suffer ing. Ralraek raised on one knee and opened his right hand. Then a ray of light shoot forth an d hit the ogre warrior in the head, killing him immediately.

The whole tribe looked upon Ralraek in utter terror, as he clearly was possessed with a mountain demon. Terrafied of what he just had done, Ralraek didn't notice the fu ss around him, nor did he react when the whole tribe run away in fear of Ralraek. H e knew that he would never again be accepted by his kin, nor given shelter and food, th us he didn't do anything to stop them or trying to explain.

Ralraek was now by himself, wandering throughout the mountains of Rang Shada. On occasion, he encountered his former tribe, but neither they nor Ralraek had any interest in getting into talking range. They still were afraid of him, and Ralraek was bu sy trying to solve the riddle his life had become. Most days, he explored the extention of his gifts but he found them hard to understand and control. He had no purpose in the explo ration and therefor failed to gain knowledge of the magic. That changed one day on his third year of travelling alone. As he travelled the northern part of the mountains, he came across the clan of o rcs and goblins living in the icy caves. He did not know they stalked him for hours, obs erving, and trying to figure out weather he was a threat. It came to this, that the scou ts saw the efforts Ralraek put in learning how to use his magic properly. Unlike the og res, they were not terrafied of him. Afraid, yes, but not to the point where running away is the one option that dominates the mind.

The orcs and goblins saw in Ralraek a great sorcerer and invoker of spirits. In need of religious guidance, they proclaimed Ralraek their new Bone Man. For four whole y ears, Ralraek stayed with the clan, serving the King of orcs. In time, he came to lear n what tricks and tasks a Bone Man needed to know. As he knew what was expected from hi m, he also had easier to develop his skills in the magical arts. Mostly, the magic he needed to use was of the cursing kind, such as causing toenails grow inwards and make w ounds infect easier. This kind of magic he used by the orders of the king, when he wou ld like a dispute solved. Often, the mere threat of using his powers on the superstitious orcs, granted Ralraek a high position within the clan, and was mostly left alone.

There was one thing that Ralraek couldn't avoid by either bluffing nor frighteni ng. That thing was the religious ceremonies. During the three days of each full moon, Ral raek had to fast. When the moon left the holy state, he was supposed to feast on the whit e, slimy mushrooms growing in the dark caverns underground. They were tasty, that was not the problem. No, the problem was that, after three days of fast, the mushrooms had a strong hallucinational affect. The orcs saw upon this trance as of their Bone Man stood in direct contact with their gods, getting spritually advice of what wars to wage.

Since Ralraek was no orc, he didn't get in contact with their gods. Therefor he had to come up with believable lies of what the god might have said. To keep the orc king ha ppy, Ralraek told him that war was necessary at least twice a year, and on occasion t hat they needed to leave two barrels of ale in the Bone Man's chamber for the god to drin k. However, eventually the king found out that Ralraek did not stand in immediate c ontact with their god. The king was furious, but he didn't dare get physical on Ralraek . Neither did any of the orc berserkers and goblin warriors. Instead Ralraek was banished for the second time, never allowed to return again.

Ralraek now saw that there was no place for him in the mountains of the midlands , and begun to travel west, towards the great mountains on the other side of Drun River...
